Mercury & Learning Disabilities: A Parent's Guide

The EPA is about to issue a Clean Air rule for power plants.  The rule will govern mercury emissions.  Methyl mercury can cause neurological problems, learning disabilities, developmental delay and intellectual disability.

The Arc of the United States is partnering with The Learning Disabilities Association of America and The National Education Association to distribute a brochure that will encourage women of childbearing age to avoid foods that contain mercury.

The brochure identifies  mercury pollution as one of the greatest threats facing developing fetuses, infants and young children. This publication also shows parents how exposure to this potent neurotoxicant can adversely affect their child's learning potential.
